THE OPPORTUNITY

Join a progressive and collaborative Team as the Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department at GBGH. The successful applicant will join GBGH on our continuing journey to make “excellent care personal”. This role reports to the Clinical Director and works closely with the Co-Chiefs of Emergency Services to participate in the assessment and care of emergency patients. All activity will be under the direct supervision of a physician and within medical directives endorsed by the GBGH Medical Advisory Committee (MAC). The successful candidate will ensure a culture focused on patient and family experience, enhanced patient safety, positive team experience, and strategic partnerships to support best patient outcomes.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for the Physician Assistant role at GBGH is a person who is driven to do the best for their team and the community we serve every day. They will have the knowledge, skills, and experience to work as part of a physician-led team in a variety of clinical settings within the Emergency Department. Demonstrating experience living the values of the organization and putting patients first to support the unique needs of the residents of North Simcoe, they will have the skills and experience to deal with medical emergencies, specialized care, and everyday health care needs of emergency patients. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Clinical competencies are essential for the role of a Physician Assistant, which calls for a proven history of accomplishment as well as a diverse range of personal and professional qualities suited to the demands of this position.

The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

  • Undergraduate Degree or Master’s Degree
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Current registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
  • Eligible for certification and membership with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA)
  • Current certification in BCLS and ACLS
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with an interdisciplinary team and understand the importance of effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to prioritize, organize and work independently
  • Ability to work in a busy clinical environment with a high degree of attention to detail and critical thinking
  • Ability to recognize clinical scenarios that require immediate attention from the staff physicians and other team members
  • Capacity to assist with patient care in a manner that emphasizes quality and safety
  • A reputation for openness, honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness
  • Experience with electronic health records, specifically Meditech Expanse is an asset
  • Commitment to GBGH Values and Purpose Statement
  • As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position

  • Hourly rate of pay $56.29 – 60.93, plus 14% pay in lieu of benefits, or 10% if enrolled in HOOPP
